Loneliness during Self-Quarantine – How to Combat

The time we all are going through is really tricky and challenging. For all of us, we are going through a hardship. There are two kinds of people as Introverts and Extroverts. While in time like this, introverts are happy, there are extroverts who are going crazy at such time since we all have to stay home. But the fact that loneliness during self-quarantine is something that can affect both the kinds is something we need to look at.

There are effectively four ways that could help in combating loneliness during self-quarantine. While you are social distancing, be you are an introvert or an extrovert these four ways are going to help you to combat loneliness during self-quarantine.

Loneliness, as all of us know from the research, can be as bad for your health as smoking. It’s more predictive of mortality than obesity. And loneliness itself was a pandemic long before Covid-19 got its name. (Between 1990 and 2010, there was a threefold increase in the number of Americans who said they had no one in whom they could confide.) ~ as told by the Washington Post.

The four antidotes to help you through this hardship are:

1) Meditate Meditate Meditate

2) Social Closening not Distancing

3) Do something small for someone

4) Exercise, Burn those calories

The first antidote to get rid of Loneliness during Self-Quarantine is Meditation. Meditation not only helps to calm your mind but also helps in getting your head into the game. And it also helps you to find your inner self and make peace with whatever you are struggling with. From ancient times it has been found that meditation not only helps in calming your mind but also has medicinal benefits. This antidote is definitely going to help you.

The second one is Social Closening. Yes, I figured you might misread it with Social Distancing. Now, in times like these, the word might make much sense. But to avoid loneliness during self-quarantine you need to pick that damn phone up and call someone. Not the whole world but some near and dear ones. Two or three max people are recommended to be called. Calling someone you like also helps to calm your mind. You might as well try that to get your mood in order.

The next one is to do something small for someone else. In surveys, people say that if they volunteer that gives them a sense of purpose. It also reduces anxiety. In Ireland, a woman named Helen O’Rahilly has helped. She helped in organizing nearly 6,000 volunteers. Just to help elderly and immune-compromised people to get groceries, almost entirely through Twitter. In Louisville, Erin Hinson is matching volunteers with people in need using Google Docs. You also can take something like this and help people around you.

The next one and most important one is exercise. I know that at such a time, you might not be able to go for your morning jog. As the park you used to go to is closed because of the Chinese Virus Pandemic. However, that should not stop you from getting in shape. Anyone who is able to exercise should do more of it at times like these. Our overall goal is to reduce the number of contacts we have with other people, but you have to strike a balance. And there’s never been an easier time to exercise without going outside or to the gym. So get the most of the time we are in now and sweat at the comfort of your home.
